WHAT’S NEW IN SIMCENTER SPH FLOW & STUDIO 2.3?
With the surge of electrification and the trend toward autonomous vehicles, transportation is increasingly equipped with electronic devices, from embedded computers to batteries, sensors, and radar.
As a result, breakthrough structures with chassis containing valuable components and sensors—the eyes and ears of the vehicle—pose numerous challenges for automotive manufacturers. Designing and deploying sensors to operate reliably under the most challenging driving conditions requires trustworthy simulation methods.
To meet this mission, Simcenter SPH Flow & Simcenter SPH Flow Studio 2.3 deliver new extended physics models and improved user experience to help designers and CFD analysts create better-performing products with shorter time-to-market.

Accurate Solid-Solid Contact with Collision Model
Vehicle fording requires accurate prediction to represent the motion of the vehicle at the contact points between tires and the road. The new collision model in Simcenter SPH Flow 2.3 enables high-fidelity automotive wading simulations.
This model can also be applied to other applications with solid-solid contact, such as iron particle lubrication simulations in powertrain systems and mixing simulations in the food or pharmaceutical industries.

High-Fidelity Hydroplaning Prediction with Extended FSI Co-Simulation
High speeds generate high pressures on the vehicle’s underlying structure. Tire deformation affects wet grip performance during hydroplaning.
These applications require efficient coupling between fluid and structural models to achieve high-fidelity predictive simulations. The extended fluid-structure interaction (FSI) co-simulation capability in Simcenter SPH Flow 2.3 allows you to predict limitations on the vehicle’s underbody and represent complex hydroplaning phenomena. You can now ensure optimal safety and sustainable performance for your vehicles.
