ECAD MCAD
Most people around the world are now working remotely, and communicating product designs within organizations—where electrical and mechanical engineers may be separated by hundreds or even thousands of miles—must be done online. Unfortunately, sharing and organizing large volumes of design data can be difficult to manage, making this seemingly simple task risky for any collaborative project. The good news is that ECAD–MCAD electrical collaboration using PLM can significantly simplify this process.
Enterprises with diverse operations and domains are seeking a single source of truth that can otherwise be lost across remote connections in a global company. Therefore, a unified system is required to support ECAD–MCAD collaboration, encompassing design activities, changes, final outputs, and documentation.
Collaboration with PLM
Teamcenter is a collaborative design solution for ECAD and MCAD products. It provides a unique design alignment capability that eliminates misalignment across the design lifecycle process. By managing electrical designs representing Electrical CAD and Mechanical CAD, Teamcenter then drives these designs through a seamless lifecycle from inception to manufacturing.
Teamcenter Communicates with Capital and NX
The video below demonstrates how Teamcenter works seamlessly to align collaboration between electrical ECAD and MCAD. The video begins with an electrical engineer who wants to create a logical design from a sub-electrical system. The electrical engineer sends the design through Teamcenter to control the flow of information to the mechanical harness. This occurs while the mechanical engineer is simultaneously developing the harness packaging space within the product context.
The mechanical engineer modifies the MCAD model in NX to accommodate the physical connectivity of devices or harnesses on the product platform. The mechanical engineer communicates the modifications and constraints within Teamcenter. The electrical engineer then receives these updates through the change manager in Capital Harness and decides whether to update the harness drawing in Capital Harness.
This process improves communication between electrical and mechanical engineers through Teamcenter integration and resolves design mismatches that could otherwise lead to the production of an incompatible product (harness).
Integrated Electrical and Mechanical Design Management
Unmanaged global ECAD–MCAD collaboration can increase the risk level of any collaborative project. Teamcenter easily manages design flows and the relationships between those designs—regardless of whether they represent electrical or mechanical domains. Teamcenter supports any analysis and provides a single source of truth. As a result, you never have to worry about working in a remote environment, a global enterprise setting, or within customer–supplier relationships.
