JR Moldes specializes in designing, managing, manufacturing, and optimizing injection molds and casting molds. The company has an annual production capacity of up to 160 molds, from small-scale to 20 tons. JR Moldes employs over 40 staff and has annual revenue of around 5 million euros. It primarily serves the automotive, medical devices, and electrical product sectors.

Germany has always been the company’s main market, with Volkswagen Group as a key customer. Over the years, JR Moldes has expanded across Europe, Mexico, Brazil, the United States, and many other countries worldwide. The company now has offices in Hong Kong and South Africa, with numerous partners in countries including Mexico, Brazil, Iran, Algeria, and Germany.

The top priority for JR Moldes’ most demanding customers is product quality and on-time delivery. Each stage of production requires precision to improve the quality of the final product. As a result, JR Moldes continually pursues advanced technology and trains the most skilled technical workers to make a positive impression on clients.

After surveying key customers on the software they used and which systems were most effective, JR Moldes decided to license NX™ from Siemens Digital Industries Software, a product lifecycle management (PLM) expert. NX is a high-performance product development solution with comprehensive computer-aided design (CAD) capabilities, including advanced assembly design, freeform modeling, surface analysis, and design optimization.

Artur Simões, from JR Moldes’ finance department, explained: “A key factor in this demanding industry is lead time, high precision, and the need for powerful tools. Working with customers and partners who use different solutions means you must integrate different data formats into a single 3D CAD system.

David Vieira, from Cadflow – Siemens Digital Industries Software technology partner – overseeing NX implementation, explained: “With their previous design system, JR Moldes faced challenges modifying and designing parts, causing delays in some projects. Simões said: “Designers spent too much time working with complex procedures and commands. Thanks to Siemens software technology, JR Moldes reduced design stage time by 30%.”

Optimizing time was crucial in choosing Siemens software. According to Vieira, sometimes the company had to repeat work due to difficulty locating previous designs and delays in task completion: “NX is the most suitable software because it easily imports mold files, allowing designers to work more effectively and efficiently.”

Improved Communication

During assessment of JR Moldes’ needs, Cadflow identified significant gaps in communication and data exchange. Vieira explained: “Employees were unable to communicate effectively, and when a design was ready, they could not work efficiently with other vendors’ software.”

The company struggled with design changes. If a modification was made, relevant personnel were not notified. As a result, outdated designs were still used, causing delays and errors. Now, JR Moldes can ensure designs are updated. Using NX has fostered an effective collaborative environment among engineering, sales, and quality departments.

NX is also useful for JR Moldes’ international expansion and collaboration. Simões said: “With our new office in Africa, NX allows initial project phases to be shared quickly and easily.”

JR Moldes required fast training to start using NX for new designs. Cadflow provided a free training program for staff. Training was straightforward and took just over a week to complete.
