VIRTUAL VEHICLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT FACILITY TOUR WITH SIMCENTER

Before reading this blog, think about all the different environments you’ve driven a car in. For example, in the 5 years I’ve owned my car, I’ve driven through scorching deserts, snowy mountains, congested highways, and more.

All of these conditions certainly affect energy distribution in my vehicle. But the engineers who worked on my car wouldn’t be able to test every extreme scenario and how it impacts vehicle energy management (VEM), would they?

One VEM Bench to Control Them All

At the Simcenter Engineering Services vehicle energy management facility in Lyon, France, there is a climate-controlled room with a driveline chassis system. The purpose of this test bench is to expose vehicles to the most extreme driving conditions while simplifying everything in a single facility – one bench to rule them all.

This bench enables vehicle-level VEM analysis rather than just component-level, delivering much more accurate results. It also integrates testing and simulation to capture VEM behavior with the highest possible fidelity.

The bench allows vehicles to operate across a wide range of test cases. Driving robots replicate standardized driving cycles such as WLTP or EPA regulations.

Additionally, the bench was recently upgraded with an EV supercharger. This supercharger enables VEM analysis under the most demanding conditions by providing fast charging capability.

The Simcenter VEM facility is not only home to this test bench and driving robots, but also a dedicated team of experts and supporting equipment to assist businesses at every stage of their VEM journey.

  • VEM test cell – a climate-controlled room with a driveline dyno, allowing engineers to observe vehicle-level VEM with far greater accuracy.
  • Tooling design room – where engineers create optimized VEM tools by designing and calculating custom components and sensors.
  • Probe room – where engineers calibrate, review, and prepare sensors before measurement campaigns.
  • Measurement lab – where technicians install sensors in critical vehicle locations.
  • Simulation room – where software experts process raw test data from in-house rigs, post-process and validate results, develop models, and deliver models to customers.
  • Project management office – where experts with decades of experience oversee each customer project to ensure success.
